ABOUT

Aleia Gonzalez

Classical guitarist Aleia González was born in Paraguay and started her guitar studies at the age of 8. Aleia proceeded her music studies at the conservatory Clave de Sol in Asuncion, where she graduated with the Diploma of Classical Guitar instructor, after presenting a paper about guitar composers and giving a recital with works featuring guitar solo repertoire and chamber music.

Separately from music, Aleia holds a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from the Catholic University Nuestra Señora de la Asunción of Paraguay, and a Master of Music degree in classical guitar performance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where she studied with guitarist Dr. Bráulio Bosi.

Aleia is a recipient of several prizes and grants. In 2010, while still at the conservatory in Paraguay, Aleia received an honorable mention in the chamber music category at the Momento Musical competition. She also placed second in the following edition in the solo guitar category. In 2016, Aleia was selected to be part of Pu Rory ensemble, a twenty-five guitar ensemble that performed and toured within Paraguay, under the direction and coaching of Paraguayan classical guitarist Berta Rojas. Aleia also received a grant through the UMKC Women’s Council in 2019, for her participation and collaboration at the Cortona Sessions for New Music in Italy.

Throughout her career, Aleia has participated in several masterclasses with renowned classical guitarists. Some of the names include Leo Brouwer, Berta Rojas, Brad DeRoche, Siqueira-Lima guitar duo, and Tom Harder. As an active performer of the Kansas City area, Aleia is constantly seeking opportunities to collaborate with singers and instrumentalists of the region. Part of this personal initiative includes performances for the Casual Concert Series of the Kansas City Guitar Society, new music concert series by fellow UMKC composers, and private collaboration with musicians. Deeply interested in new music, Aleia was a fellow performer at the 2019 Cortona Sessions for New Music, a contemporary music festival held in Cortona, Italy, where she had the opportunity to premiere two chamber works. Recently, she has also premiered a new work for KC VITAs, a vocal ensemble for new music in Kansas City.

Currently, education plays an essential role in Aleia’s musical life. Based in Lawrence, KS, Aleia teaches guitar at Washburn University in Topeka, KS, Rockhurst University in Kansas City, MO, MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, KS, and Palen Music Center in Liberty, MO.
